On Friday February 28th, CUNY had its second annual Emerging Leaders Conference under the governance of the new CUNY Leadership Academy Director Dr. Joe-Joe McManus . . . The Master of Ceremonies for the conference was Manny Lopez, the Assistant Director of Student Life from Bronx Community College. Vice-Chancellor Garrie W. Moore kicked off the event with a lively, inspirational speech about his vision for the academy and for CUNY students . . .January 27, 2009

On November 13, New York City Council honored Lehman's Center for Urban Male Leadership (UML) with a formal proclamation for its work with black and Latino males. Speaker Christine Quinn and Councilman Larry B. Seabrook were officiates of the ceremony, along with student members Vice President of Student Affairs Jose Magdeleno . . . Keith Lewis, a junior, joined the Center in September 2007 after attending one of its meetings. Lewis is also an active member of the Student Conference (Student Senate), a Golden Key International Honor Society member and a CUNY Leadership Academy Fellow.October 8, 2008

On Sept. 19 the City University of New York's 16 student government leaders
attended the Presidential Conference, hosted for the first time by Baruch
College. At this meeting, presidents from different campuses exchanged

Antwaun Gavins is a young African-American male, child of a single mom,
and brother to10 siblings also trying to succeed in a sometimes difficult
city. A junior at John Jay College, Gavins, 20, looks forward to earning
his bachelor's degree and then attending law school. But he wants more
